In architecture world, K. F. Schinkel is known
to be a great German
architect in 18 to 19 century. Actually, he is known to be an architect, but he had another major.
When he was young, he worked as a landscape painter and he gained a good reputation.
Because of his good reputation, his paintings are brought to Japan and exhibited at Tokyo
National Museum in Ueno in 2005. Since I
have been a fun of Schinkel, I went to this exhibition and I was
fascinated by the light in his pictures. Look at these pictures!
He usually set sun behind the cloud, tree, and classical buildings.
Because of it, the light became pale. Moreover, the subject of his
paintings is idealized Classical landscape. This reflects his longing
for the classical period.
Below
is some of his landspace paintings!
In addition to Schinkel, I love French
Architectures. I will explain about some of them in the next page.
