What is Osechi Ryori?

Osechi ryori is specially prepared New Year's food.
It is beautifully arranged in lacquer boxes called "Jubako."

For Japanese, the first day of the New Year is the special day,
and the day should be the full of joy and no works,
even cleaning, washing dishes, or other household tasks.

Therefore, dishes of Osechi ryori, generally,  is made of various kinds of foods
with the way that they can be stored without refrigeration for a few days.
Moreover, Osechi ryori is associated with health, happiness, and a good harvest,
and much of the foods have special meanings!!
